The Miracle Cream
My children and husband have sensitive skin and I have been looking for something that will help soothe the occasional flare-ups that they get. Before I started looking for something that would help topically I figure I ought to look at some of the external and internal factors that can cause the flare-ups. Here are some of the common culprits:
- Soaps and detergents (including laundry detergent)
- Bubble bath
- Lotions and perfumes
- Clothing
- Chlorine
- Heat
- Dry air (think winter with the heater on)
- Food allergy (cows’ milk, eggs, soya, wheat, fish, nuts, etc…)
- Dust mites
- Pets
What I found to be helpful for my kids was to limit the amount of time they were in the bath tub and as soon as they got out I would tap dry them off and then slather them in lotion. I used to use a lotion that I thought was much better than alternatives…that was before I knew to really read the label. Once I entered the “natural world” I realized that I had natural options. I’ve played around with a couple different concoctions and this is the recipe that I have found to work the best for helping to soothe their skin. At the base is Coconut Oil which is amazing for helping soothe skin issues. If you are allergic to coconut then I would probably turn to avocado oil and make it into an oil blend instead of a cream.
Miracle Cream
- 1/2 C. Coconut Oil
- 15 drops Melaleuca Essential Oil
- 15 drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 15 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
Mix it up! Apply as needed. Pretty simple, right?
You can also just apply a small blob of coconut oil in the palm of your hand and add a drop of each to it, then rub where you need to. The great thing about this recipe is that it is what I use for sore baby bottoms and really dry skin as well. I love this cream!!
RECIPE NOTE: If you live in a warm area this will melt (as coconut oil tends to do) and will be an oil blend rather than a cream. In these cases I usually put it in a spray bottle for easy application.

hi, can I mix this cream in large quantity ahead of time before using it? thanks for the tips
Yes, we mix ours beforehand. Sometimes it will turn into a liquid and we just put it in a spray bottle then.
I LOVE using coconut oil! I use CapriClear, which is a coconut oil, all natural spray on moisturizer which helps with dry, itchy skin.
Can I say how much I LOVE the smell of this? I could just use it as perfume and I’d be happy enough with that. LOL! I’ve made some for my family and my parents and they all love it. So thanks a bunch!
Awww, thank you! I love hearing that something I created for my children is blessing the lives of so many people.
any substitutes for lavender? or is it integral to the healing properties?
You could try it without lavender.
I created this to use on my son who was one at the time. He’s now three and just fine. 🙂 I would only recommend doTERRA of course.
Hi,Could I swap out the melaleuca for tea tree oil?Would it be just as effective or would it be too strong? Thanks.Regards,Sophie
Melaleuca and tea tree are the same thing. It is important to know where it’s coming from though as this is a very commonly adulterated oil.
Has anyone used this one a baby around 4 1/2 months old?
Can you use the Fractionated Coconut Oil for this recipe? If not do you melt the coconut oil before mixing in the essential oils?
It does not have the same results.
Do you melt the coconut oil before mixing then?
If you can’t easily stir it then you’ll probably need to melt it a little. It doesn’t need to be fully melted to mix.
I guess I am confused I use the oils and LOVE them… But I am lost of how this mix turns into a cream?? Can you please help me.
If the coconut oil is not too warm or not too cold it is creamy. 🙂 If you live in an area where it will be warm, it’s sometimes best to put it in a spray bottle instead.
Hi! My 3 years 9 months old son is using a special cream for eczema on his whole body even face and behind ears twice a day (morning and night). Can I use this recipe on his skin face and the rest of the body morning and night? Thanks.
I originally created it for my infant son and had no problems using it on him. Coconut oil is so good for your skin anyways, especially with the weather changing.
Thank you for your response. I\’m a new doTERRA member and learning about how to use the oils. Thanks for the recipe.
We are trying this recipe on a preschooler and her eczema seems to be getting worse after the first couple days of using it. Any suggestions?
How often are you using it? Have you used coconut oil on her skin before? Have you tried the elimination diet as well to cut out grains, dairy, and/or sugar?
Some have found that adding geranium or helichrysum to the mix is helpful.
Remove dairy from her diet. See my comment below.
Does this have to be refrigerated at all? I made a chest rub and found that it started melting slightly when left at room temperature. It would be so helpful if this didn’t need refrigeration! Thanks!
Eczema runs in my family. My oldest sister became an RN for a dermatology office, because of the terrible eczema break outs she suffered. Dermatologists recently learned that eczema is a dairy allergy. Not surprising as all of 9 children in our family have some form of latose intolerance or eczema. So she changed to Almond milk, and she’s perfectly normal now and retraining the rest of us to lose dairy from our diets. Trying to eliminate all dairy is tough tho because it “hides” in so many food products. Milk is what makes bread soft, so it’s in breads, and cakes and so many other things, candies, sauces etc. I hope you will give it a try in your family too. Our family is done with eczema forever.
I made this mixture and it didn’t work. I have a 3 1/2 month old who has eczema. Do I need to dilute it more or add something? I was applying it every time I changed his diaper and then started doing it only at night. What do you think?
I don’t think diluting it more will help. Maybe try adding in Geranium and/or Helichrysum. Some people have also found that adding Shea Butter helps. Making sure he’s not getting too long of baths, and that you’re cutting out the dietary items that are setting it off would be helpful (dairy especially).
Thank you for this! Do you think refrigerating this would reduce its effectiveness? Summer is here and my coconut oil is soupy!
Putting it in the refrigerator is good. In the summer when it gets melty I usually put it in a spray bottle.
Which Melaleuca oil did you use? There are two.The T36 or the T40? Or does it matter?
You want to look for one that is Melaleuca alternifolia. You can text MODERNWELLNESS to 33444 and I’ll send you an email with the brand that we use and recommend.
I got a jar of this & LOVE it.
My cat likes to bear his claws when he stretches & it digs into my skin. This cream makes the scratches go away faster.
Can’t wait to make my own!
i actually mixed a drop of each of these and some coconut oil in my hand today and then rubbed it on my face. Then I went online and tried to look up a recipe that I could make with these four ingredients, and I came across your video! 🙂 Your video says to use 20 drops of each, but your written recipe says to use 15 drops of each. How much of each should I actually use?
You can use either.
